MS Internet Explorer Version 5.x or 6.0

Follow these steps to configure your browser to take advantage of the Library's CalNet-Authenticating Proxy Server.

Note: Some users report that with a DSL or cable modem connection, Internet Explorer 6.0 may need to be configured as if for a dial-up connection. There also seem to be SBC variants of Internet Explorer 6.0 which have a "DSL Settings" facility; if you have such a browser, use this rather than the "LAN Settings" to configure the browser for the proxy service.

For use with a Local Area Network (LAN) with Internet Explorer 5.x or 6.0.

  1. Select Tools.
  2. Select Internet Options.
  3. Select the Connections tab.
  4. Select LAN Settings.
  5. Check the box next to: "Use Automatic Configuration Script"
  6. Enter in this Address http://proxy.lib.berkeley.edu:7777/proxy.pac
  7. Click on OK.
  8. Click on OK on the Internet Options menu.
